Establishing exercise as part of cancer treatment

Regular physical activity can positively influence the course of cancer and significantly improve quality of life. The Cancer Move Continuum Switzerland (CMCS) project is establishing a national network that facilitates access to high-quality, evidence-based exercise therapy and aims to anchor it as an integral part of cancer care.

In the interview, Nicola Greco and Anastasios Manettas explain how CMCS connects oncology centers with specialized physiotherapy practices, the role of evidence-based exercise therapy in modern cancer care, and the challenges involved in building a nationwide service.

The CMCS therapeutic concept is based on clearly defined quality standards: a regularly updated list of indications determines when exercise therapy is appropriate; a clinical decision-support system enables structured treatment planning and continuous monitoring and adjustment of progress; and specialized training for physiotherapists ensures a consistently high standard of care across Switzerland.
