Organization and Governance

The Comprehensive Cancer Center Zurich (CCCZ) is a joint center of the University of Zurich, University Hospital Zurich, Balgrist University Hospital, and University Children’s Hospital. Bringing together more than 40 clinical departments, 15 research institutes, and over 90 research groups, the CCCZ unites 125 members in a shared mission - driving innovation in oncology through integrated care, research, and education.

Seven core areas – Cancer Research, Cancer Medicine, Clinical Trials, Biobanking, Technologies, Bioinformatics, and Education & Outreach – guide and drive the strategic development of CCCZ as a center of excellence in oncology in Zurich. Their shared goal is to integrate innovative clinical oncology, research, technologies, and data science to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic concepts in precision oncology.

Governance

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee consists of the Director of University Medicine Zurich (UZH), the Director of Research and Education (USZ), a delegate from either Balgrist University Hospital or the University Children’s Hospital Zurich, and the Chair of the CCCZ. The Committee is responsible for overseeing, monitoring, and reviewing the strategic development of the CCCZ.

The nine-member Executive Committee comprises the Chair, Director of the Clinical Program, Director of Clinical Trials, Director of Basic Research, Director of Translational Research Programs, Director Pediatric Oncology, Director of Outreach and Education, Director of Technologies, and the Director of Bioinformatics. The Board is responsible for the strategic development and operational management of CCCZ as a center of excellence in experimental and clinical cancer research in Zurich, for the benefit of patients and society.
