The Zurich Precision Oncology Funding Program supports outstanding translational cancer research projects that bridge basic science and clinical practice.

Dedicated Lighthouse Projects reflect the mission of CCCZ as a Comprehensive Cancer Center of Excellence, focusing on innovative approaches that address unmet clinical needs and rapidly translate scientific advances into patient care. By connecting interdisciplinary research, clinical oncology, and advanced technologies, the program drives the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies in precision oncology.

2026 Call now open - We look forward to receiving your applications for Lighthouse Projects and Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs)

We are pleased to launch the 2026 Call of the Zurich Precision Oncology Funding Program. As part of this call, we aim to support two CCCZ Lighthouse Projects and at least one Investigator-Initiated Trial (IIT), with the possibility of funding several IITs depending on scope and budget requirements.

2026 Call for Lighthouse Projects

Criteria for CCCZ Lighthouse Projects

  • Scope: Innovative science with clearly visible potential for clinical translation by connecting the basic research environment with oncological patient care at CCCZ.
  • Team: 4-6 investigators, all CCCZ Members, from at least two CCCZ institutions, PI must be member of faculty of medicine or science at UZH.
  • Funding Period: 2027-2030
  • Funding Volume: Up-to CHF 2 Mio per project

2026 Call for Investigator Initiated Trials

Criteria for CCCZ Investigator Initiated Trials (IITs)

  • Scope: Diagnostic tests, interventional treatments, or technologies that have a direct impact on cancer outcome. The call favors early IITs with short follow-ups and primary outcomes, which aim to establish proof of concept (including phase 1 and early phase 2a).
  • Team: One principal investigator (PI) and at least one sub-investigator, PI must be a clinician and a CCCZ member, PI must be a professor or PD of the UZH faculty of medicine or affiliated with the UZH or one of the university hospitals.
  • Funding Period: 2027-2030
  • Funding Volume: Up-to CHF 2.6 Mio. total

Timelines

  • 15.4.2026 – Submission Letter of Intent. A LOI is mandatory for coordination of the review process. All teams submitting a LOI will be eligible to submit a full proposal. There will be no intermediate evaluation of the LOIs, and applicants may begin preparing the full proposal immediately.
  • 7.6.2026 – Submission Full Proposal.
  • 15.6.-2.8.2026: Evaluation of all proposals by external review panel.
  • 30.9.2026 – On-site Hearing & Review. Please save the date for the on-site hearing of the top-ranked proposals on 30.9.2026, 9.00-16.00h.
  • Oct 2026: Communication of evaluation results to all applying PIs.
  • 01.01.2027: Start Project Funding.
